About: For Project 1, I am focusing my concern on deforestation, particularly in the production of paper. I am inspired by the art of making paper, its origins and eventual modern development. I have seen various types of paper- ranging anywhere from paper made with recycled newspaper, paper made with animal feces and your standard bleached copy paper. I will be examining the commercialization of paper making through the base of lint from my dryer. Other ideas I may consider are old thrifted denim or local cattle waste.

 

How it meets criteria: In this project, I will consider why paper is fundamental, what sort of technology is used in production, the intensity of logging, processing types of paper myself, as well as analyzing adjustments to the management of waste in large-scale paper companies. 

 

Resources consulted: The internet :-)... Youtube tutorials, articles

 

Materials: Thrifted blender,  2 thrifted picture frames that are the same size, mesh panel, lint, cattle feces (?), newspaper, old Tupperware container, rolling pin, water.

Expected hours: Minus drying time, I suppose learning how to and making my own type of paper will take about 8 hours out of my week.
