I saw a video a while ago that explored the multiple use of materials. The object of study was an avocado. Since I know avocados have become a very popular food, why not take a look at the other uses it serves other than nutritional value. The avocado has 3 component parts- the skin, which can be used for plant dye, the meat, which is used for consumption, and the pit, which I now know can be used as shampoo and of course, growing a new plant.

-A lot of websites I found talk about how to make your own DIY concoction of shredded avocado seed and water, but none about the scientific properties which make this possible. This is very similar to how the chestnut or soap nut act- articles talk about the molecular properties of these plants and how agitation creates this bubbly reaction. The saponins, which I spoke about in one of my first entries of this project, absorb water, are agitated and are then released to remove dirt and other substances.

-I decided that since I have an avocado seed at hand, that I would try this technique in addition to making my synthetic soap. It won’t hurt, right? The only thing I don’t understand so much is how this acts as a saponin since after you shred the seed and boil it, you end up adding it to a squirt of your already made shampoo. So, is this just a weak saponin made to make your shampoo last? I think this still has potential as an emerging zero-waste/natural plant based alternative but what use is it really if you need shampoo to activate your avocado seed base?
