Project 5.2, My subject plant

For this experiment, I chose a plant that was on its last limbs. I inherited my Christmas cactus from my grandmother and when I got it in my hands, it was wilting, squishy and yellow. I knew that this proved something about the soil, so I repotted the plant, but it remained in the same condition. I am willing to use this Christmas cactus as research for my water repurposing because while I hate to say it, it is drab and 1 step away from becoming compost. Might as well see what I can do with it before I have to toss it into the somewhere to decompose.
The Christmas cactus is also a good choice because they don’t require too much water and although I am conscious about my experiment, the likelihood of my roomates dumping my water and their water is high. All that Christmas cacti really need is solid access to indirect light during the fall and winter months and a damp, porous pot. Attached is the before picture.
