While my project displays water repurposing at a very small scale, there are larger ways in which water repurposing is applied to daily living. Of the most common benefits to water reclamation is agriculture, irrigation, creation of potable water supplies, groundwater replenishment, industrial processing and environmental restoration (EPA). On top of that, the reuse can provide a multitude of alternatives for water security, sustainability and resilience (EPA).
-I’ll admit that I was blind to some of the ways that water is largely repurposed. I had neglected to consider stormwater and wastewater as a possible alternative for clean water supplies. It just makes sense to reuse the water if it’s a viable solution for what it’s uses intend.
-Through my time scrolling throughout the EPA website, I learned that the US does not require or restrict any type of water reuse (EPA). It makes sense since water is a public good, but that also makes me consider what sort of gradient other areas are being affected by water loss while more economically developed countries benefit from clean water use every day.
- I attached a diagram that I found on the EPA website that walks through the cycle of wastewater to treatment to repurposing.
